Quoting from the De Soto National Memorial Website: “De Soto’s quest for glory and gold would be a four year, four thousand mile odyssey of intrigue, warfare, disease and discovery that would form the history of the United States.

I can empathize with De Soto on the length and drama of his quest. We always try to fit too much into one day. We never seem to know when to quit and today we really paid for it!

WEEKI WACHEE SPRINGS FLORIDA – A DREAM COME TRUE

Have you ever had a place in your mind that was so exotic, so wonderful, so otherworldly that you couldn’t imagine ever being able to see it in person? Perhaps as a child you were thumbing through a magazine, watching a television program or even surfing the internet when suddenly, there it was! That place that couldn’t possibly exist in real life, that place that captured your imagination so completely that you never forgot it. That place that in your wildest dreams you’d never actually see in real life.

For me, that place was Weeki Wachee Springs Florida.

Picture this…

 You’re sitting in your little fishing boat on a lake. The sky is blue, the water calm, the fish are biting and life is good. Suddenly you notice that the boat has begun to move backward, it’s picking up speed, faster and faster toward the center of the lake. You turn around and can’t believe your eyes!  A giant whirlpool is opening up in the middle of the lake! In horror you watch as a huge barge is sucked into the maelstrom and your boat is heading toward the same fate.
