Where do we end up?
If you are a person of a certain age, you may remember the Sunday Drive. Those were the days when the whole family climbed into the car for the purpose of driving down the road, with no particular destination in mind, just to see what there was to see.
Simple curiosity is a lost art.
For better or worse, the United States of America that we know and love today was founded, changed, built and fought for with blood and conquest.
It’s a history that we often forget.
Plans. We made them. Had it all figured out. Knew exactly what we’re going to do. But you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men.
They often go awry…
Texas is a big place, it requires a “whole lotta” miles of driving just to get anywhere. It’s going to take us two more stops along the Rio Grande to reach the coast. The first stop is in Del Rio, Texas. I wasn’t expecting much. Boy was I wrong!
Tourists…they come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. Some lug around huge packs, hiking poles and Camelbak bladders, others walk up to an overlook, take a picture and leave and still others haul kayaks around on their heads to put in at rivers. Wherever they are, we try not to be. Sometimes it can’t be avoided.
There is some debate among park aficionados as to which is the most beautiful, Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park.
Today is the day we put the debate to rest.
Sometimes, in life, it’s good to take some time to think about your priorities.
Really focus on what’s important.
